The surprisingly drab plans for Trump’s election night party

There is little modest about Donald Trump, except for perhaps how he plans to spend the night of Nov. 8.
The Republican presidential nominee will hold a “victory party” on election night at the New York Hilton Midtown, a staid, gray property. That’s right: The capstone on Trump’s bid for the US presidency will be unveiled at the same hotel that recently hosted annual meetings of the American Accounting Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

It’s a subdued departure for Trump, who kind of, sort of, not really took time out of campaigning last week to inaugurate the newest Trump luxury property, the Trump International Hotel in Washington DC, just steps from the White House.
“The event is invitation-only for friends and supporters of the Trump-Pence campaign,” a campaign statement said of the party, which starts at 6:30 pm.
It isn’t clear why the candidate is suddenly warming to the art of understatement, but the Washington Post reported that an unnamed source with knowledge of the event planning said Trump is “superstitious” and doesn’t want to hurt his chances of winning by planning a large celebration.
Trump’s opponent, still–frontrunner Hillary Clinton is going big, and like Trump, Big Apple. The Democratic nominee is planning celebration beneath the literal glass ceiling of the Javits Center, a cavernous convention hall that looks like an plane-less airport on Manhattan’s West Side, possibly including fireworks over the Hudson River.
Maybe they have learned from one another.
