Some Of The Biggest Names In Football Are Set To Play An Anti-Terrorism Match In Nigeria


While football has always been a pretty accessible means of entertainment and fun, the sport has also managed to serve as a meaningful and unifying force between friends, families and countries.

Now, with Nigeria fighting a war against terrorism, football has found a way to lend its support to the cause – in the form of a novelty match which will feature big names such as Kanu Nwankwo, Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Now, with Nigeria fighting a war against terrorism, football has found a way to lend its support to the cause – in the form of a novelty match which will feature big names such as Kanu Nwankwo, Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The match, which is scheduled for May 21 in Abuja, is organized by non-profit organization, Next2none, and will include African football legends, Samuel Kuffour, Abedi Pele, and Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha as they play against stars such as Diego Amando Maradona, Zinedine Zidane, Thierry Henry, David Beckham.
The match will also involve female footballers such as Sydney Leroux, Assisat Oshoala, Birgit Prinz, Sun Wen, Kelly Smith, and the amazing Hope Solo.
This Day reports that the initiative called Africa My Africa has the support of FIFA, NFF, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Agency for Prohibition and Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
Chairman of Next2none, Ndukwe Sam Obu, revealed that the initiative is to unite all nations to combat terrorism, insurgency and human trafficking by leveraging on football which has shown positive impact by bringing peace to different nations.
